WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE SUN

We love the sun, but the sun doesn't love our skin - it causes 90% of all skin cancers, as well as most wrinkles and skin discoloration.

Overcast days are not much safer than sunny days, as 70-80% of the sun's ultraviolet rays can break through the clouds.

The sun is about 80% stronger when reflected off sand or snow, and rays increase in intensity about 4% for every 1,000-foot rise in altitude.

The sun weakens the immune system, reducing your defense against infection.

As a skin care clinic in the mountains of Colorado, we take suncare seriously. Experts advise avoiding the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., but those are primetime hours for hiking, biking, skiing and enjoying other outdoors activities. So we recommend wearing a hat, sunglasses or goggles, and keeping exposed skin covered with high SPF sunscreen.
